It is well-known that speedruns of Super Mario 64 use the “backwards long jump” glitch on the stairs of the second floor of Peach’s Castle to get past the 50-star door.

However, it is also possible to gain enough speed to clip through that door by performing over 100 frame-perfect wall jumps in the hallway, as seen in the footage. This is currently only possible using tool-assisted input and has not yet been performed by any human players.

Super Mario Galaxy utilizes three levels of detail for models of NPCs that are loaded depending on their distance from the camera (but not for Mario himself or for enemies, which are always high-quality, in contrast to e.g. Super Mario 64 where Mario himself was replaced with a low-quality model when far away).

Since both Mario and Luigi are playable characters, but only Luigi appears as an NPC, only Luigi has a low-quality model. While it can be seen in the distance especially in the high-definition Super Mario 3D All-Stars version of the game, it cannot be seen up-close in-game.

Here is a view of low-quality Luigi from multiple angles.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the longer Mario spends climbing a tree without letting go, the higher the chance becomes of his position becoming glitched. If that occurs, Mario can suddenly teleport either far above or below the tree while seemingly holding on to nothing. The exact mechanisms of this are not understood.

In Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, every character has either one or two types, which consists of Wood, Fire, Water, Light and Dark. Out of these, “Dark” is the designated evil type, with characters like Bowser being Dark, and Dark skills having names like “Curse”, “Grudge” etc.

Curiously, Lemmy is the only one of the Koopalings who is Dark-type, with the rest represented by other types. In addition, while the other Koopaling skills are named after elemental attacks (“Morton’s Flame”, “Wendy’s Splash” etc.), Lemmy’s skill is alarmingly named “Lemmy’s Nightmare”.

This may suggest that Lemmy somehow is more evil, or has the darkest personality of all the Koopalings.

In the Bowser’s Fury mode of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, a minor obscure interaction is that while most of Plessie’s body does not interact with enemies when standing still, the wagging of Plessie’s tail actually kills enemies, as seen with the Cat Goomba in the footage.

In Yoshi’s Island, the Sluggy the Unshaven boss in World 5-4 has a weak point, a visible heart, that is protected by his gelatinous body. Normally, Yoshi must shoot several eggs at the body to create an increasingly deep dent in it to reach the heart.

However, there is an oversight in the code whereby the heart’s hitbox has a greater active distance than the gelatinous substance surrounding it. As such, by very carefully timing egg shots and running back and forth so that the body is out of frame when the egg would be touching it, but barely in frame when it would reach the heart, the egg will bypass the body and only hit the heart.
