The aim of the “Dodge Balls” microgame in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames is to dodge soccer balls while playing as a small Wario-themed car.

For every time the microgame is played, the balls pick a direction determined by the random number generator on the frame the microgame starts, and roll in that direction while bouncing off the walls in a predictable manner. There is always a set of possible directions they can pick that results in none of their paths going over the middle of the screen, where the car starts off - allowing the player to win by doing nothing.

The footage shows a small segment of a tool-assisted run in which a maximal score of 999 is achieved by never moving the car. The only thing the player does is strategically pause the game at specific points to manipulate the random number generator into always making the balls roll away from the car. As such, it is technically possible to get a maximum score in this game while using only the Start button, and not actually interacting with the microgame itself.

Unused, extremely quickly-moving tiny Yoshi sprites found in the development files for Yoshi’s Island. These were intended to be used during world map cutscenes, like similar small Yoshi sprites are in the finished game.

Top: the ending screen for Super Paper Mario shows Count Bleck and Tippi, together again in their true forms as Blumiere and Timpani.

Bottom: the internal name for the texture used for them is “aa3_LOVE_05”, with “aa3” being the internal name of the ending room and “05” an internal texture number, leaving the actual name of the picture as simply “LOVE”.

To lower the workload, some shots in the various Super Mario cartoon series were created with characters being embedded as part of the background so that only the small parts that actually moved needed to be drawn on separate animation cels (a common practice, especially in lower-budget productions).

Some of the resulting drawings are extremely minimal, but have nevertheless been sold to collectors of cartoon production materials. Above is a frame where only Luigi’s eyes have been drawn, from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode “King Mario of Cramalot”.

A glitch occurs in both versions of Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch version shown in the footage) in the desert section of Land’s End. If Mario happens to land between two sand whirlpools in a precise way where he is touching the hitboxes for both of them at the same time, the game will become stuck in a loop of attempting to teleport him to two different areas simultaneously and failing.

The only way to continue playing in this scenario is to reset the game.

Luigi’s Mansion contains an unused “playable Mario” model in its files, which consists of Mario stretched to have proportions more similar to Luigi (and wearing straps for the Poltergust), likely for a scrapped two-player mode.

In pre-release footage of the game, Luigi was seen doing a “duck-walk” move, which has been completely removed from the game, and does not even remain in the files. However, this unused Mario still has the animation for the duck-walk in his data, so that it can be seen when modifying him to be playable.
