Concept art for a Donkey Kong game called “Freedom”, pitched to Nintendo by Vicarious Visions (developer of Skylanders: SuperChargers, which contained Donkey Kong and Bowser) in 2015. The game was supposed to be an open-world Donkey Kong platformer.
Despite receiving interest from Nintendo, Vicarious Visions’ parent company Activision cancelled all work on the project in 2016.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, upon Mario and Luigi’s first visit to Toad Town, the way to the left is barricaded. The player must take a different path and watch lengthy cutscenes before reaching the west part of town.
However, a unique glitch happens with a particular Toad in this room. This Toad runs over to greet Mario and Luigi, and then runs back after he finishes talking. However, if the player is quick enough, Mario and Luigi can intercept the Toad while he tries to run away, and he will be stuck walking to the left for as long as they block his path, as seen in the footage.
Moving him all the way to the barricade causes him to clip into it, which in turn allows Mario and Luigi to clip in as well, skipping to the west part of town.

Top: a picture of Waluigi that appears in the 150cc version of the credits in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2.
Bottom: this appears to be a reference to a famous shot from the 1988 animated film Akira. In addition to Waluigi’s pose, note in particular the exact matching positioning of the lines on the road behind him and the city in the background.

The music instrument samples used by Koji Kondo when he composed the Super Mario World soundtrack were all taken from commercially available sources, and simply reduced in quality to be playable on a SNES.
After many years of searching, video game music enthusiasts were able to track down all original samples in their source quality, allowing the tracks to be restored to the form they could have had if the SNES were able to use high-quality samples. In this post, the restored version of the Castle/Fortress music can be heard.

“Battle Unit Yoshi”, an extremely bizarre unique unused enemy found in the files of the GameCube version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
While it has the appearance of the Yoshi Kid partner when he is fighting against Mario during the Doopliss battle, it is coded as an enemy and a partner simultaneously. As such, it is an enemy for the purposes of damaging Mario and his other partner, but is actually controlled by the player. The player can even make this Yoshi access Mario’s own inventory and use it against him, as seen in the footage.
It is unknown if the outlandish scenario of being able to control an enemy was ever intended to appear in the finished game, or whether it was merely used for internal testing.

In the Nintendo Switch version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Mario has an unused death animation whereby his hat falls off his head. However, Toad also has the same animation (also unused), which was copied over directly from Mario. As such, Mario’s hat control point is assigned to Toad’s mushroom cap, causing it to fall off as seen in the screenshot.
