Left: an unused Shy Guy found in the prototype version of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. The thin legs are so out of place for the regular Shy Guy design that it is possible that this was some other enemy wearing the top half of a Shy Guy outfit as a disguise.
Right: while regular Shy Guys do not appear in the finished game, this camo variation appears during a Gunner Guy attack animation, and appears to be simply a different-colored regular Shy Guy. Note the differences between the bottom halves of the enemies.

In the Super Mario 3D World game style of Super Mario Maker 2, Builder Mario is able to “pseudo-walljump” off of spiky walls by using his hammer right as he would touch the wall. This imparts him with enough backward momentum that he can use a nearby wall to gain a very small amount of additional height.
As seen in the footage, this can be used to very slowly and tediously scale a shaft where one side is completely covered in spikes.

A 1996 promotional booklet for Super Mario RPG from the Japanese VJump magazine contained a series of recaps of the game’s plot in “Western comic” form, whereby every speech bubble was written in English with both a pronunciation guide above the words and a translation underneath.
Some dialogue seen in the comic is not based on anything seen in the game, such as Mario saying “OH, MY GOD!”

In Donkey Kong Country, whenever Diddy Kong loses a matching minigame, he will perform a special animation of taking off his hat, jumping in the air and throwing it onto the ground, whereupon he will continue angrily stomping on it until the screen fades out.
A rare glitch can occur during this if the jump button is pressed on a specific frame whereby a regular jump will become multiplied by the jump used during the animation, causing Diddy to perform an extremely high jump seemingly just to throw his hat with additional force.

For a 2023 Super Mario Bros. Wonder tips feature in the Japanese Nintendo Dream magazine, the tips were provided by a “Talking Flowersona” of one of the editors, i.e. an original character of the Talking Flower species from that game, created to be a representation of that person.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Bowser appears both as a playable character and as a boss. While these two obviously never meet for logical reasons, by modifying the game, it is possible to see what would happen if playable Bowser fights boss Bowser.
As it turns out, Player Bowser can attack Boss Bowser without issue, but Boss Bowser cannot attack Player Bowser and the game crashes when he attempts to.
