In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the gimmick of the Pi'illodium boss battle is that upon reaching low HP, the boss will initiate a self-destruct timer and then explode when the timer runs out, dealing extremely large damage to Mario and Luigi.

Boo Biscuit items are only useful for practicing dodging enemy moves, since despite making Mario and Luigi invincible to all enemy attacks, they also make them unable to attack or deal damage to any targets. However, this downside is irrelevant in this scenario since the boss simply defeats itself, so they are actually perfect to survive the self-destruct attack completely unharmed.

Interestingly, while it seems to not have been intended in this game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership later uses the same trick on purpose instead. Late in that game, a boss battle features an unavoidable attack that Boo Biscuits are one of the few ways to survive.

The prototype of the game that would eventually become Dr. Mario was called “Virus” and featured this music in the files. What it would have been used for is unknown, though it might have been a loss theme, a cutscene theme, or even particularly low-energy gameplay music.

Players of Super Mario Sunshine may have tried to perform the “Blooper Surfing Safari” mission of Ricco Harbor without actually surfing on any Bloopers. Doing this by simply getting Mario on top of the wall, running around the starting line, and entering from the other side reveals that this does not count as finishing the race.

However, that does not mean that it is not possible to finish the race this way; only that there are precautions in place to prevent the simplest way of attempting to cheat it. The game sets up two “control zones” that Mario has to touch in order for the act of touching the finish line to count as completing the race (bottom image, highlighted).

As long as the player knows where those zones are, and makes sure to touch them, it is entirely possible to complete the race without riding any Bloopers. The footage shows where Mario must go. This can save up to 20 seconds over doing the race the “intended” way.

The Japanese version of Super Princess Peach contains unused unsetting-looking 3D models of three different ninjas in its files, with two of them having a facial texture with the word “1skin” written on their foreheads.

The models are found together with leftovers for Densetsu no Starfy 4, a Japanese-only game in the Legendary Starfy series, which was developed by the same studio. However, despite also appearing in the files of that game, they are unused even there, so their true ultimate purpose is unknown.

In the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Bowser will not spawn in castle levels if the screen where he is supposed to be is entered while 5 other objects in addition to Mario are on screen.

In the footage, Mario walks to Bowser’s bridge alongside three Bullet Bills and jumps onto the bridge while two fireballs from Bowser are on screen, reaching 5 other objects. This results in Bowser himself not appearing on the bridge, though interestingly, it also does not despawn the “offscreen Bowser flame generator”, making it look like Bowser is still there, just further offscreen to the right (even though he isn’t and the only thing to the right is the chamber in which Toad is being held).

This creates the humorous effect of Bowser seemingly being intimidated by Mario (possibly due to him being accompanied by three Bullet Bills), and appearing to have fled from his own battle arena while still continuing to attack Mario from offscreen.

The 2002 Korean Digimon RPG for Windows contained, for an unknown reason, music that is extremely blatantly copied from the “The Axem Rangers Drop In” theme from Super Mario RPG.

In this post, the original Super Mario RPG theme plays for the first 25 seconds, followed by the version from Digimon RPG.

In the ScareScraper mode of Luigi’s Mansion 3, it is possible for a Goob to get stuck in a swirling animation while not being sucked in if the player capturing it lets go at the precise frame it would be defeated.

The Goob will continue swirling in mid-air until it is interacted with, such as by using the Strobulb on it, whereupon it will die.
