In the beginning of Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the player briefly controls Luigi as he is tasked by a Toad to investigate a draft in the attic of Peach’s Castle.
If the player attempts to make Luigi leave the room, the Toad will stop him with increasingly demanding/insulting remarks the first three times. On the fourth time, the Toad will wordlessly go offscreen and drop a weight on Luigi’s head.

Development files for Super Mario Kart reveal that at some early point during development, music from the SNES version of SimCity was used to test the game’s soundfont. Here is the “Town” music from SimCity, played in the Super Mario Kart soundfont, as extracted from the files.

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, many Talking Flowers react dynamically to situations (such as congratulating the player upon making it to a platform, or saying “Well then.” if the player fails to reach the platform and dies). However, some Talking Flowers are only programmed to respond to a single situation, and will be left “speechless” if it does not occur.
Top: at the beginning of the Maw-Maw Mouthful stage, a Goomba falls down a ledge and gets eaten by a Maw-Maw, prompting a nearby Talking Flower to say “Gah… Glad I’m not a Goomba…”
Bottom: however, if the player is quick enough and defeats the Maw-Maw before it can eat the Goomba, saving the Goomba’s life, the Talking Flower will literally have nothing left to say and will remain silent.

A minor character detail in Paper Mario that can only be noticed by replaying the game many times and having different partners out for the same cutscenes is that Parakarry is apparently much more afraid of Tubba Blubba than any of the other partner characters.
While the other four partners that are in Mario’s party react to Tubba Blubba waking up with concern and urgency, Parakarry has a much longer textbox that expresses genuine panic and despair. In addition, he is the only one who uses a wavy text effect, representing a character’s voice being shaky, while everyone else talks in a normal voice.
Please note that Tubba Blubba’s sprite is not showing up in the scenes above due to the modified setup used to capture the footage. This affects only his sprite, and the same dialogue can be seen in the same form on original hardware.

On the Coconut Mall track in Mario Kart Wii, the skybox outside the mall only has clouds near the horizon, and a completely clear blue sky directly above the track.
However, when inside, a sky with many clouds can be seen through the glass roof of the mall, when there should not be any clouds in the sky in those locations according to the sky outside.
This is accomplished by surrounding the glass roof with a fake sky that has more clouds than the real sky, which is shown at the end of the loop in the footage. It is possible that the developers thought that a glass roof would look more visually appealing if many clouds could be seen through it. However, why they opted to not make the two skies match is unknown.

A small change introduced in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that was not in the original Mario Kart 8 is that now, characters will actually look to the side when switching to rear-view mode to show they are more aware of something potentially approaching from behind, while before they would just stare unchangingly forward, at the player.
Top: Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. Yoshi does not react to the rear view.
Bottom: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch. Now, Yoshi actually reacts to the changing view.

In the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario RPG, most characters’ proportions have been modified from their regular ones by making them more squat with shorter limbs.
However, in a unique case, Bowser’s legs actually have been made longer. Above is a comparison between Bowser’s standard model on the left and his Super Mario RPG model on the right.
