Top: the Mushroom Kingdom stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee contains a hidden platter of sushi within one of the pulleys of the Scale Lifts, which can be seen only by very carefully manipulating the camera to clip inside the pulley.

Bottom: for an unknown reason, this sushi uses a more high-quality graphic than the sushi seen as a food item during regular gameplay.

In Snow Cap Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy, it is possible for Mario to fall through the ground while chasing a Star Bunny in specific spots on the planetoid.

If this occurs, Mario will be stuck in a gravity well in the center of the planetoid, unable to escape, and will need to wait for the mission’s timer to run out in order to die.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Lemmy Koopa’s challenge in Bowser’s Castle consists of splitting into four copies, whereby Mario and Luigi need to find the correct one and attack it in order to proceed to the battle.

In the prototype version of the game (shown in the footage), Lemmy’s sprites were not finished, so Birdo was used as a stand-in instead.

Left: the regular Jumping Piranha Plant enemy, as seen in Super Mario World.

Middle: after completing the Special Zone, the overworld changes colors and several enemies change designs. One of the changes that occurs is Jumping Piranha Plants becoming Jumping Pumpkin Plants.

Right: development files for the game reveal that an early design for the post-Special Zone Jumping Piranha Plants was this plant that appears to be a cross between a Fire Flower and Mario.

Left: in the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario RPG, Valentina’s battle intro and attack animation features her blowing a kiss. At the angle and with the lighting shown in-game, her lips appear to move in a manner that appears relatively natural (at least in relation to her character design).

Right: however, examining the actual model of her kissing animation, extracted from the game, reveals that the lips are actually massively exaggerated during that animation and it is the isometric angle and flat lighting that hides this fact.
