Left: the regular Jumping Piranha Plant enemy, as seen in Super Mario World.

Middle: after completing the Special Zone, the overworld changes colors and several enemies change designs. One of the changes that occurs is Jumping Piranha Plants becoming Jumping Pumpkin Plants.

Right: development files for the game reveal that an early design for the post-Special Zone Jumping Piranha Plants was this plant that appears to be a cross between a Fire Flower and Mario.

Left: in the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario RPG, Valentina’s battle intro and attack animation features her blowing a kiss. At the angle and with the lighting shown in-game, her lips appear to move in a manner that appears relatively natural (at least in relation to her character design).

Right: however, examining the actual model of her kissing animation, extracted from the game, reveals that the lips are actually massively exaggerated during that animation and it is the isometric angle and flat lighting that hides this fact.

In Super Mario Sunshine, if Mario enters the secret slide area in Delfino Plaza (accessible via a warp pipe on the small islands near the lighthouse) with the Rocket Nozzle and uses it to skip past the Shine Sprite at the end of the slide, he will become stuck in mid-air in a falling animation.

While Mario appears to be eternally falling, he is actually not moving and is stuck in single spot in the air. There is no way for Mario to escape this state.

A 1994 test program used internally by Nintendo to showcase the abilities of the SA-1 chip, used mostly for smooth rotation of several sets of graphics simultaneously (e.g. in Super Mario RPG), used a render of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and a drawing of Bowser as test images.

In the provided footage, the chip demonstrates its abilities by moving, scaling and rotating DK and Diddy, Bowser, and the background independently of each other.
